Te Urewera project update

Predator Free 2050 Limited has confirmed that the Tūhoe-led Te Urewera project to remove predators from islands and peninsulas around Lake Waikaremoana will not proceed at this time.

In April 2021, $1.65m in Jobs for Nature funding was set aside for the Te Urewera project to ally Tūhoe investment in this area and support the development of 10 permanent jobs. However, Tūhoe has advised that it needs to focus its people and resources on other priorities at this time and will therefore put the project on hold. The $1.65m in funding was not drawn down.
