The Predator Free 2050 Limited Board has endorsed the direction of a refreshed Research Strategy for 2020-2024 which will benefit from $3.5m per annum additional investment.
Science Strategy Manager Dan Tompkins says the main focus of the strategy will be enabling removal of rats and stoats from large landscape back country areas.
“We’ll continue investment into the ‘best use of existing approaches’ and ‘environment and society’ programme areas. The ‘new approaches’ area will build on the recently-produced full genome sequences of ship rats and stoats and include the use of lab-based GM tools to explore gene function. The programme area that saw data standards and ‘proof of absence’ statistical tools developed under the previous strategy will now be transitioned into operational application.”
A new round of Products to Projects developments will also be launched over the next three years.
